Every seventh summer, the roots shake and hum, heralding the return of the sleeping king and his people.

Most inhabitants of the woodlands believe cicadas to be nothing more than a fairy tale.

Children grow up hearing stories of a civilization sleeping beneath the roots of the forest, but few take them seriously. Mice live short lives relative to the cicadas' emergence cycles, and the idea that an entire kingdom could slumber for hundreds of years sounds impossible.

The party will encounter the eccentric Mad Mole Merrick, a disgraced former scholar and supposed expert on forgotten woodland history who claims to know the way to the Cicada Kingdom.

Most view him as a conspiracy theorist.

The party may discover he knows more than he should.
